Frisco, Texas – The Angelo State men's basketball team fought valiantly back from a 15-point deficit to lead late against top-seeded West Texas A&M; however, costly turnovers and clutch buckets from the Buffs saw WT take their sixth-straight LSC Tournament Championship 64-63 over the Rams in the Comerica Center.
The Rams struggled in the first half, only shooting 32 percent from the field and converting one of their 11 attempts from three-point range while committing 11 turnovers.
The lone three came from
Reggie Quezada, who just managed to beat the halftime buzzer to make the score 37-25, with the Rams trailing.
The second half saw the Rams' offense firing on all cylinders despite the absence of
Kevon Godwin, who went down injured in the first half. The Rams shot 50 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from three after the intermission and held the Buffs to 30.4 percent shooting from the floor in the second half.
Quezada led the Rams with 18 points, and
Willie Guy followed with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting, making a pair of threes. The duo was the catalysts offensively for the Rams' furious comeback in the second half, for which they were named to the LSC All-Tournament Team.
Fredelin De La Cruz notched seven points and four rebounds, and
Devaughn Thomas added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Rams are now 25-6 on the season; they await to hear about their postseason tonight on the NCAA Selection Show, which is at 10 p.m. tonight on NCAA.com.
