KINGSVILLE, Texas – The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team claimed the series victory over Texas A&M – Kingsville on Sunday, winning 10-2 and 6-1 to close out the weekend at Nolan Ryan Field.
With the pair of victories, the Rams are now 35-6 overall on the year and remain first in the Lone Star Conference with a 33-6 record.
GAME THREE: ASU 10, TAMUK 2
After two scoreless innings, the Rams struck first in the third as
Tyler Boggs scored on a dropped fall baull from third before
Kamden Kelton and
Thomas Cain scored on wild pitches.
Austin Beck drove in the fourth run of the inning on a double to left center.
The Javelinas got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth, scoring on a two-run home run to left field to make it 4-2.
Braxton Pearson started on the mound for the Rams, throwing four innings with two runs off six hits while collecting two strikeouts. He earned the victory to improve to 5-1 on the season.
The game was halted due to weather during the fifth inning and resumed Sunday afternoon.
ASU collected three more runs in the fifth as
Tripp Clark homered to left field before another wild pitch brought in Beck and a sac-fly by Kelton made it 7-2.
Jordan Williams earned an RBI in the sixth with a sac bunt to score
Jacob Guerrero while Kelton added two more runs on a homer in the seventh.
Caleb Heuertz picked up his first save of the season after throwing three innings in relief, giving up only one hit with three strikeouts.
GAME FOUR: ASU 6, TAMUK 1
In the final game of the series, Williams hit another sac bunt to score Guerrero in the third before a double steal by Kelton and Beck added another run with Beck coming home.
After the Javelinas made it a 2-1 game in the fourth with a sac-fly, Boggs added to ASU's lead in the eighth with a three RBI double down the left field line.
Jackson Berry pitched five innings with only one run on five hits to start the game as he improved to 2-0 overall.
The Rams added one final run in the ninth inning as Williams reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Beck on the play.
Earning his second save of the season was
Scott Ellis who threw four innings in relief while giving up only one hit.
The Rams return home next weekend for the final regular-season series at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium as they welcome in St. Edward's beginning on Friday, Apr. 21.
