Top-Ranked Rams Blank No. 8 St. Edward's to Complete Series Sweep

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team completed the series sweep against No. 8 St. Edward's, winning 8-0 in game four on Sunday at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
 
The Rams improve to 40-6 overall on the year and 38-6 in Lone Star Conference play. With the ninth shutout on the year, the Rams also set a new program record for shutouts in a season, breaking the previous record of eight set in 2012.
 
ASU put the first run on the board in the third inning as Thomas Cain scored on an error. The Rams extended the lead in the fourth inning as Reese Johnson and Cain hit RBI singles to make it 3-0.
 
The scoring continued for the Rams in the fifth as they led the inning off with three straight singles before Austin Beck scored on a wild pitch. Tyler Boggs brought in Tayten Tredaway on a single before Kamden Kelton added a run on an RBI single. Boggs came around to score from third as the Hilltoppers threw out a runner at second.
 
Kade Bragg started on the mound for ASU, throwing five innings with no runs on six hits with five strikeouts. He extends his streak to 26 scoreless innings as he moves to 11-0 on the season while lowing his ERA to a Division II best 0.27. He also set the program record for shutouts in a season with four on the year.
 
The Rams added another run in the seventh, scoring on a balk with the bases loaded.
 
Scott Ellis threw two innings in relief without allowing a hit and punching out three batters while Mason Bryant and Austin Teel each threw one inning with one hit.
 
Harris and Kelton collected three hits on the day to lead the Rams with four players tallying an RBI.
 
The Rams will close out the regular season next weekend as they travel for a four-game series against West Texas A&M.
