SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team was defeated in the opening game of their series against St. Edward's, falling to the Hilltoppers 2-1.
The Rambelles only mustered five hits, with
Keilei Garcia and
Bailey Martinez tallying two each, while
Maleya Burns collected the fifth.
Leadoff solo home runs from the Hilltoppers in the fourth and the fifth innings proved to be the difference, as the Rambelles' only run came on a Garcia RBI single with two outs in the fourth.
Cheyenne Floyd picked up her fifth loss of the season despite only allowing five hits and two walks while striking out nine Hilltoppers; she has collected 25 strikeouts in her previous three starts across 19 innings inside the circle.
The Rambelles are 24-18 on the season and 16-15 in conference play; they close their series against the Hilltoppers tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at noon.
