SAN ANGELO, Texas – The top-seeded Angelo State baseball team will advance to championship day of the 2023 Lone Star Conference Tournament after defeating second-seeded St. Edward's 12-4 on Friday at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
Playing as the visitors in today's game, the Rams put the first run on the board in the top of the second inning as
Jordan Williams capitalized on a fielding error to get on base before scoring on a wild pitch.
The Rams added another run in the fourth as
Jackson Hardy executed a sac bunt to score
Austin Beck and give ASU a 2-0 lead.
SEU evened the game in the fifth, hitting a two-run home run to left field.
Aaron Munson started on the mound for the Rams, throwing five innings with four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. With the win, he improves to 7-2 on the season.
The Rams answered back in the sixth, scoring three runs in the inning as
Tripp Clark hit an RBI single before a groundout by Hardy and a passed ball brought in two more runs.
The Hilltoppers closed the gap in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs on a single up the middle to make it 5-4.
After a lightning delay, action returned in the seventh as Williams hit a bases-clearing double to score three runs and extend ASU's lead.
The scoring continued for the Rams in the eighth as
Thomas Cain grounded out, scoring
Kamden Kelton in the process. In the ninth inning, ASU added three more runs as Beck hit a solo home run before bases-loaded walks by Kelton and Cain added two runs.
Braxton Pearson earned a save after throwing three innings of relief with only one hit.
The Rams will go into the final day of the double-elimination tournament without a loss and will face the winner of St. Edward's verse Lubbock Christian for the LSC tournament title.
