SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State volleyball team opened the 2023 season with a pair of 3-0 wins to open day one of the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational, downing the University of the Southwest in front of nearly 3,000 fans before sweeping Henderson State to close day one out.
The Rambelles dominated the Mustangs in their first match of the season, hitting .636 as a team and holding the Mustangs to 31 total points scored across all three sets.
This is the first time the Rambelles have hit over .500 in a single match since they hit .519 against Eastern New Mexico on October 11
th, 2019.
Hannah Kinnison led all players with 13 kills; the senior from Colorado recorded more kills than the entire Mustang squad (12) while hitting .750.
In her first collegiate match,
Madi Parrish fell one kill shy of a double-double, recording nine kills and ten digs; she hit .692 for the match.
Elsa Lamphere (.833 attack percentage),
Cate Boldrick (.800),
Kamryn Williams (.667), and
Marina Sanchez (.600) all hit over .500 for the match.
Laney Dale led all players with 23 assists, and
Alli Kirkpatrick had 11 assists in her debut.
The Belles' second match against the Reddies proved more challenging, with HSU leading for the majority of the third set before the Belles came back to finish the sweep.
Kinnison once again led all players with 12 kills, while Dale led with 18 assists.
Evelyn Torres and Parrish each recorded seven kills, while
Hannah Spencer chipped in five, hitting .417 for the match.

Caleigh Enax led all players with 15 digs, and Kinnison and Sanchez each had three blocks as the Rambelles held the Reddies to a .016 hitting percentage for the match.
The Belles close the weekend out tomorrow against Huston-Tillotson at 1 p.m. and UT Permian Basin at 5 p.m.
