Rams Bounce Back with 111-89 Victory Over St. Mary’s

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball returned to the win column with an emphatic 111-89 win over St. Mary's on Thursday evening inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena.

The win ended the Rams' four-game skid, while the 111 points they scored are the most in a single game against a Division II opponent since the Rams scored 112 against Eastern New Mexico back on January 17th, 2015.

The Rams, who never trailed the Rattlers, shot 58.7 percent from the field and 56.7 percent from three-point range. They made 17 three-pointers and tallied 30 assists, both single-game bests for the Rams this season.

The short-handed Rams saw all nine players who played end up on the scoresheet, led by Kevon Godwin's season-high 28 points in 29 minutes on the floor.

The senior guard shot 10-of-18 from the field and 8-of-13 from three-point range while also assisting four times.

Keyshawn Embery-Simpson turned in his second-straight 20-point performance and fifth of the season with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting. The graduate student guard had four rebounds and six assists as well.

Willie Guy led the Rams with 36 minutes of game time logged and had 16 points; he led all players with eight assists. Guy made four of his five attempts from three-point range and led the Rams with three steals.

Carvell Teasett added 14 points and five assists, while Shemar Smith flirted with a double-double, recording nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.

DJ Basey scored nine points, Everson Armstrong set a new career high with six points, Kendrick Delahoussaye had five points, and Chris Boekhort scored on his only field goal attempt.

The Rams improve to 13-5 on the season and 8-4 in conference play; they also improve to 20-0 on their home court under head coach Vinay Patel.

The Rams close out their weekend on Saturday when they host St. Edward's at 3 p.m.; the Hilltoppers are coming off a 78-68 win over UT Permian Basin this evening.
