SAN ANGELO, Texas - After a career night from
Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant scoring 32 points and efficient afternoon shooting the ball, the Angelo State women's basketball team earned win number 14 on the season, defeating St. Mary's 75-71 Thursday afternoon inside the Junell - Stephens Arena.
The Rambelles improve to 14-6 on the season and are now 8-3 in Lone Star Conference play. The Rattlers fall to 3-14 on the season and 3-8 in LSC action.
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
- The Rambelles and Rattlers both came hot out the gates, McGhee-Pleasant would sink her first of six triples to give the Rambelles a 9 - 4 lead with 6:36 remaining in the first quarter.
- Back-to-back layups by Keniah Williams helped keep the Rattlers at bay, still leading 19-10 with 2:14 remaining in the first quarter.
- The Rambelles would go into the second quarter up 22-16 after a three by Ramsey Robledo brought the game closer for the Rattlers.
- Madeline Stephens scored the first four points to begin the second, putting the Rambelles ahead 26-18 with 9:06 to play before half.
- In the middle of the second quarter, Sawyer Lloyd scored five straight points to extend the Rambelles lead to eight, 31-23 with 5:30 remaining.
- Madisen Honea would score the last points of the half for the Rambelles, giving them a 37-31 lead going into the half.
- McGhee-Pleasant started the scoring for the Rambelles in the second half with a layup to give the Rambelles a six-point advantage, 39-33.
- At the 6:55 marker, Stina Svilberg knocked down a three to bring the Rattler's deficit to just four points trailing, 44-40.
- St. Mary's would fight back in the third quarter, bringing the Rambelles lead down two going into the final quarter of action.
- Taylor Haggan of St. Mary's would knock down two straight buckets to give the Rattlers its first lead of the night, 60-58.
- Ariah Powell would extend the Rattlers lead to 63-58 with 5:30 remaining in the half.
- In a 2:30 span, the Rambelles would knock down four straight threes, one by Madisen Honea and three straight by McGhee - Pleasant to give them a 72-69 lead with two minutes remaining.
- McGhee-Pleasant would secure her place in the record book, knocking down a free throw and giving her career high in points with 32 and the victory to the Rambelles, 75-71.

- McGhee-Pleasant was the game-leading scorer with a career-high 32 points on 12-19 shooting and six of seven from behind the arc. McGhee-Pleasant also recorded eight rebounds and three steals.
- Madeline Stephens would be the other scorer in double digits for the Rambelles, recording 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and two steals.
- Sawyer Lloyd would score nine points, eight assists, six rebounds, and three steals.
- The Rambelles tied a season-high with 10 triples, shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc, their best shooting performance of the season from deep.
- The Rambelles shot 40 percent (28-69) from the field, 40 percent (10-25) from behind the arc, and 69.2 percent (9-13) from the free throw line.
- A complete performance was turned in offensively by the Blue and Gold, as they registered 23 assists and had 14 points off the bench.
