MIDLAND, Texas – The Rams dominated from coin toss to the final whistle as the Angelo State football team defeated UT Permian Basin 36-7 on Saturday night to stay undefeated in Lone Star Conference play.
With the win, the Rams improve to 3-2 overall on the year while holding a 3-0 record in conference play.
After a muffed punt gave the Falcons good field position, the Rams held UTPB to a field goal attempt which was blocked by
Owen Seaver and recovered by
Eric Rascoe to keep in the game scoreless in the first quarter.
ASU's defense recorded the first score of the game in the second quarter as
Xavier Walton forced a fumble deep in UTPB territory before
Kenton Allen picked up the ball and ran it in for a touchdown.
Later in the quarter,
Braeden Fuller found
Brayden Wilcox on a six-yard touchdown pass. The Rams converted the two-point attempt to take a 15-0 lead into halftime.
The Rams opened the third quarter with a big run as Fuller took off on an 86-yard touchdown run to extend the lead.
ASU held the Falcons to 277 yards of offense, including 108 yards on the ground while forcing two turnovers by UTPB.
Andrew Pitts recorded an interception in the third quarter, adding to his career total of 19 while picking off a pass in each of his last four games.
Fuller added two more rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter, finishing the game with four total score while running for 146 yards and throwing for 112 on nine completions. Fuller has now thrown or ran for seven touchdowns in his last two games.
Allen led the defense with 12 total tackles while
Stephen Woods added six tackles and two pass breakups.
After nearly a month, the Rams make the return home next weekend as they welcome in Texas A&M – Kingsville on Saturday, Oct. 12 at LeGrand Stadium at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
