Rams Win Seventh in a Row with Dramatic 17-16 Victory Over #17 Central Washington

SAN ANGELO, Texas – In dramatic fashion the Angelo State football team pulled out a 17-16 victory to defeat 17th-ranked Central Washington and remain undefeated in Lone Star Conference play on Saturday at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.

The Wildcats scored with 34 seconds left in the game before missing the tying extra point, sealing the win for the Rams. ASU improved to 7-2 overall and 7-0 in conference play to keep first place in the standings.

The Rams didn't waste any time scoring their first touchdown of the game as Braeden Fuller hit Zeek Freeman on a seam for a 75-yard touchdown pass on the first offense play of the game.

Both defenses kept the game close as the Wildcats kicked a field goal in the final moments of the first quarter to make it 7-3.

ASU extended the lead early in the second as Bradley Larson converted a 47-yard field goal on his own, only one-yard shy of his career-long.

The Wildcats tied the game midway through the quarter, running the ball in from eight yards out to make it 10-10.

With less than two minutes to play in the first half, Fuller broke away on a 41-yard run to bring the ball to the one-yard line, setting up a touchdown run by Jayden Jones to give the Rams a 17-10 advantage at the break.

The Rams collected 291 offensive yards on the night, including 123 yards on the ground. Fuller threw for 168 yards on 8-of-15 passing while adding 94 yards rushing.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Wildcats moved the ball 53 yards into Ram territory before Kenton Allen jumped a pass for an interception to end the drive with 7:53 to go in the game.

Allen finished with a game-high 13 tackles on the night while Own Seaver collected eight tackles including two sacks and three tackles for loss.

The Wildcats scored the final touchdown on a nine-yard run, setting up for a two-point conversion before a false start moved them back, forcing the missed kick. CWU attempted the onside kick before Eric Rascoe swatted the ball out of bounds to give possession to the Rams.

Saturday's win was the first against a ranked opponent for the Rams since defeating 15th-ranked Texas A&M – Kingsville on Oct. 22, 2022.

With two games remaining in the regular season, the Rams will go for the conference title next weekend as they travel to Western Oregon on Saturday, Nov. 9 with kickoff set for 3 p.m. CT.
