SAN ANGELO, Texas – The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team completed the series sweep over the Cameron Aggies on Sunday, winning 24-1 at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
With the win, the Rams hold a 6-2 overall record and in Lone Star Conference action.
The Rams pulled out ahead in the first inning as
Tripp Clark hit a two-run homer to center field to open the scoring. ASU added another run in the inning as
Jaxon Weatherly forced a bases-loaded walk.
Cameron scored one in the second inning on a solo homer to make it 3-1.
The Rams extended the lead in the second inning as Clark brought in another run, hitting a single to score
Austin Beck before
Jacob Guerrero doubled down the left field line to score two more.
Derek Klosowski earned the win, throwing 3 1/3 innings in relief, allowing only one hit with three strikeouts and no runs.
ASU broke open the scoring in the fourth inning as the Rams put up seven runs in all as Weatherly and Clark both hit three-run home runs to make it 14-1.
The Rams continued to pour it on, adding another seven runs in the bottom of the fifth capped off by two-RBI singles by
Kannon Brooks and
Hunter Holt.
Clark collected a team-high six RBIs on the day while Weatherly and Brooks finished with four and three other Rams added two RBIs.
Johnny Stacy tossed two innings in relief without a hit and collected three strikeouts.
The Rams will be back on the road next weekend as they continue LSC action at UT Permian Basin beginning on Friday, Feb. 16.
