DALLAS – The Angelo State men's basketball team started their final road trip of the regular season on the wrong foot as they suffered defeat at the hands of the nation's eighth-ranked team on Thursday evening in Dallas as DBU claimed an 85-73 win over the Rams on Thursday evening inside the Burg Center.
The Patriots went on a 25-3 run that encapsulated a nine-minute span to close the first half and open the second half, which proved to be the difference.
The Rams shot 49 percent from the field but struggled from deep as they only converted four of their 18 attempts from three.
Kevon Godwin turned in a season-high 29 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the field and 3-of-7 from three-point range. He also had five rebounds and two steals.
Godwin is now at 1,078 career points, which moves the senior guard into ninth place on the ASU all-time scoring list. He is 22 points away from becoming the ninth player in program history to score 1,100 points.
Trey Farrer just missed out on a double-double with 15 points to go along with nine rebounds. Farrer was perfect on six shot attempts from the field and caused DBU's Cameron Kahn to get into early foul trouble.
Keyshawn Embery-Simpson and
Kendrick Delahoussaye each scored eight points, and
Willie Guy had six points.
The Rams are now 17-9 on the season and 12-8 in conference play; they close their weekend out against UT Tyler, who dropped their game to UT Permian Basin this evening, 75-52.
