SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 17
th-ranked Angelo State baseball team dropped game one of the series against UT Tyler, falling 8-5 on Friday evening at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
With the loss, the Rams move to 8-5 overall and in Lone Star Conference play.
After a scoreless first inning, the Patriots got on the board, scoring on a groundout to the short stop. UTT added another run in the top of the third with a sac-fly to make it 2-0.
The Rams got one run back in the bottom of the third as

Blake Wilhoite.
The Patriots put two more runs on the board in the fourth, scoring on a bases-loaded walk and a sac-fly to right field. In the fifth, UTT extended the lead with an RBI triple to make it 5-1.
In a bullpen game,
Caleb Heuertz started on the mound for ASU, throwing 2 1/3 innings with two runs on three hits and two strikeouts.
In the seventh, the Patriots tallied a run on their third sac-fly of the game and extended the lead in the eighth with a balk, making it 7-1.
The Rams got back into the game in the bottom of the eight, scoring four runs.
Jaxon Weatherly came home on a double steal before Wilhoite earned an RBI single.
Weston Valasek scored on an error by the Patriots while Wilhoite scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-5.
Jackson Berry threw four innings of relief for the Rams, allowing three runs on five hits along with a walk and a strikeout.
UTT answered back in the top of the ninth, leading off with a triple before a single made it a three-run game.
The Rams and Patriots continue the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
