SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team dropped their series finale, 7-4, against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Wednesday afternoon at Mayer Field.
The Javelinas loaded the bases in the first inning, scoring a run with a two-out single; however, the Rambelles got a runner in a pickle, throwing her out at the plate to limit the inning to a single run.
The Rambelles responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning, with
Layni Tanner drawing a walk and
Carter Smith singling and stealing their way into scoring position for
Tatiana Trotter, who singled in the tying run.
A throwing error by the Javelinas catcher allowed the second run for the Rambelles to score, giving them a 2-1 lead.
Trotter used heads-up baserunning to score on a dropped third strike, and
Zoey De Baca capped the scoring with an RBI single.
The Javelina lineup slowly chipped away at the Rambelles' 4-1 lead, scoring twice in the second and once in the third to tie the game before scoring two more runs in the fourth on a two-run home run.
The Javelinas drove in another run in the sixth inning to bring the game to the final scoreline of 7-4.
Torrey Hogan got the start for the Rambelles, only lasting two innings; her replacement in the circle,
Cheyenne Floyd, also threw two innings.
Amelia Hatthorn threw the final three innings in relief.
The Rambelles are now 22-9 on the season and 13-8 in LSC play; they are back in action this weekend against St. Mary's.
