SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team claimed their first series sweep in over a month as they defeated Western New Mexico 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at Mayer Field.
Tatiana Trotter led off the fourth inning on her eighth triple of the season before scoring on a one-out single by
Lauren De La Cruz to put the Rambelles ahead.
Averie Gunther walked and
Carter Smith reached on a bunt single to lead off the fifth inning, setting up
Laylonna Applin, who just missed out on a home run but still drove in both runs on a triple.
Trotter would fly out to right field to drive in Applin on the sacrifice fly.
Cheyenne Floyd picked up her Division II-leading 16
th win of the season, throwing six shutout innings and only allowing one hit, a two-out double in the fourth inning, while striking out seven Mustangs.
Amelia Hatthorn pitched a perfect final inning in relief of Floyd.
The Rambelles improve to 27-10 on the season and 18-9 in LSC play. They are back in action in Thursday in Austin against St. Edward's.
