Rams Down Wayland Baptist 14-2 in Nonconference Play

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State baseball team collected a nonconference win on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Wayland Baptist 14-2 in seven innings at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
 
With the win, the Rams improve to 23-11 overall on the year.
 
The Rams jumped out in front early in the contest, scoring four runs in the opening frame, capped up by an RBI triple from Ryder McDaniel and a double from Rance Rosas.
 
Tripp Clark hit his second sacrifice fly in the second inning to add a run before Kannon Brooks brought in two runs on a double in the third inning to make it 7-0 in favor of the Rams.
 
The Pioneers got on the board in the top of the fourth inning, scoring on a solo home run and an RBI single to close the gap.
 
ASU answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on singles by Conagher Sands and Jaxon Weatherly followed by a groundout by McDaniel that scored Sands.
 
Luke Spencer started on the mound for the Rams, throwing three innings of work with one hit and six strikeouts to improve to 2-0 on the season.
 
The Rams tallied four more runs in the sixth Rosas singled through the left side to score Sands before back-to-back hit-by-pitches with the bases loaded brought in two more. Justin Harris brought in the final run of the game on a sac-fly to center field.
 
Michael Cruz and Jude Stephens both tossed one inning of relief, with no runs and one strikeout.
 
The Rams will have the weekend off before returning to conference play on the road at Texas A&M International on Friday, Apr. 5.
