No. 21 Rambelles Split Doubleheader to Claim Series over Lady Chaps

Lubbock, Texas – The Angelo State softball team split their doubleheader on Sunday afternoon against Lubbock Christian to win their ninth LSC series in a row, dropping game one 5-0 before bouncing back for the 7-4 win in the series finale at Maner Park.

This is the first time the Rambelles have won a series in Lubbock since the Lady Chaps joined the LSC in 2019.

The Lady Chaps controlled game one, scoring their runs on a pair of two-run home runs and a wild pitch.

The Rambelles lineup struggled in the contest, only scratching across four hits, two of which came off the bat of Layni Tanner.

The Rambelles' lineup returned to form in the series finale, pushing across six runs in the first inning.

A two-out rally for the Rambelles was kicked off by a Tatiana Trotter single up the middle to keep the inning alive. She would steal second before scoring on a Keilei Garcia single.

Zoey De Baca's ground-rule double put two runners in scoring position for Tanner, who singled up the middle to plate the two runs.

Ashton Dirner would draw a walk to extend the inning, and Carter Smith singled in Tanner before Dirner and Smith would score on the same play, courtesy of a Lady Chaps' error.

Trotter, once again with two outs, would step up to the plate in the second inning and homer over the center field fence to make it 7-0.

The home team would score once in the fourth, once in the fifth and twice in the sixth in an attempted comeback; however, the Rambelles managed to hold on for the win.

Tanner went 3-for-4 from the plate in game three as she went 5-for-6 from the plate in the doubleheader. The Rambelles also got multi-hit games from Trotter, Garcia, and Smith.

Amelia Hatthorn picked up her fourth win of the season and second win of the weekend, throwing six innings and allowing eight hits and two runs while striking out three Lady Chaps.

The Rambelles are 36-13 on the season and 27-12 in LSC play. The Rambelles are on their bye week this weekend before closing out the regular season against West Texas A&M in Canyon the following weekend.
