Ireland Ferguson Selected to Compete at BIP Global Challenge

SAN ANGELO – Angelo State volleyball's Ireland Ferguson has been selected to compete for the Bring It Promotions' (BIP) U23 All-Star team that will compete in Pula, Croatia, on July 11-21.

Per BIP, Ferguson and the 11-woman U23 team "will play in a four-day tournament that features other national select teams from the US, junior national teams, as well as elite club teams from all around the world."

The team's European tour will include stops in Austria, Slovakia, and Slovenia, in addition to the tournament in Croatia.

"I am beyond excited to have been given this opportunity to broaden my view of the world and grow as a player," said Ferguson. "I am so appreciative to be able to create such a meaningful memory with my sister Brighton, who is playing on the U19 team."

Ferguson, an incoming junior from Venice, Florida, majoring in Health Science Professions, is one of three Division II players on the roster, joined by Wingate's Emily Johnson and Colorado Mesa's Savannah Spitzer.

"What a great opportunity for Ireland to play internationally," said Belles Head Coach Chuck Waddington. "Not only will she get to play against some great competition, but she'll also grow culturally with all the places she will get to visit firsthand. I'm sure this trip will make a profound impact on her, both athletically and personally."

The team will be led by David Goodchild, the head volleyball coach at Durham University in Northern England, and Ferguson's high school coach, Brian Wheatley, the current AVCA National Coach of the Year.

"I can't wait to discover the impact this will have on my life and take advantage of this trip overflowing with opportunity and development," said Ferguson. "Earning the chance to play the sport I love with people from all over the world is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I will never take for granted."
