DALLAS – Adeline Ortman broke through the 2,000-career assist mark and
Madi Parrish tallied a career-high 22 kills as the Angelo State volleyball team completed the LSC Challenge with a four-set win over the nation's third-ranked team, West Texas A&M, on Friday evening inside the Burg Center on the campus of DBU.
The Rambelles took set one 25-21 before dropping set two 25-18. The Belles bounced back to take set three 25-22 before completing the win with a set four score of 25-17.
The win is the Belles' third over a ranked opponent in as many matches. This is the first time as a head coach that
Chuck Waddington has defeated three ranked opponents in a row and consecutive matches.
The Lady Buffs are the highest-ranked opponent the Belles have defeated since they defeated top-ranked Concordia-St. Paul in 2021. This also snaps a five-match losing streak the Belles had in the series dating back to 2021.
The Belles committed only 11 attacking errors for the match, their fewest in a match this season. They hit .372, a single-match high this season.
Parrish's 22 kills came on 40 attempts and only three errors for a .475 percentage; her 22 kills are the most in a four-set match in the LSC this season.
Evelyn Torres had 15 kills and nine digs, hitting .464.
Demi Carter had eight kills on a .500 attack percentage, and fellow middle
Hannah Spencer had six kills and a .556 attack percentage.
Freshman
Amelia Creacy added four kills in two sets; libero
Caleigh Enax led the Belles with 13 digs.
Ortman finished the match with 49 assists, including her 36
th assist, which went to Parrish's kill to clinch the third set for the Belles and give her assist number 2,000.
The Belles are now 10-1 in the LSC, the first team in the LSC and the fourth team in Division II to reach double digits in wins. They open conference play next weekend on the road as they take on Midwestern State and Texas Woman's next Friday and Saturday.
