Floyd’s No-Hitter Highlights Pair of Shutout Wins for No. 11 Rambelles

Conroe, Texas – The Angelo State softball team opened the 2025 season with a pair of wins at the DII First Pitch Invitational in Conroe, defeating Regis 8-0 in five innings before defeating Pittsburg State 5-0.

The Rambelles' win over the Rangers saw reigning LSC Pitcher of the Year Cheyenne Floyd throw her first no-hitter at Angelo State and the first for the Rambelles since Brandy Marlett did so on February 3rd, 2017, against Florida Tech.

Floyd finished the game with 13 of her 15 outs coming via the strikeout, including striking out the first 12 batters she faced. She carried a perfect game into the fifth inning before allowing the leadoff batter to get on board with a walk.

As the home team in the game, the Rambelles scored in all four runs they came to bat.

The Rambelles loaded the bases in the first inning for Erin Plunkett, who doubled down the left-field line to drive in a pair of runs.

With runners on the corners and two outs in the second inning, Tatiana Trotter singled in a run to make it 3-0. The Rambelles would tack on two more runs when the next batter, Laylonna Applin, tripled to right center field to make it 5-0.

Abby Brand's infield single in the fourth inning drove in a run to push the nation's 11th-ranked team to six runs.

Applin singled to drive in a run in the fourth inning before Zoey De Baca's fielder's choice with the bases loaded made it 8-0.

De Baca kicked off the scoring in game two with a squeeze bunt in the second inning. Brand would single in a run, and Paris Brienesse would record her first hit as a Rambelle, a triple, to plate a run to give the Rambelles a three-run advantage.

The game remained 3-0 until the sixth inning when an error and a walk put two runners on base for Lauren De La Cruz, whose two-out double scored both runs to make it 5-0.

Amelia Hatthorn picked up the win, throwing five shutout innings and striking out six Gorillas while allowing six hits. Raegan Sucher and Bri Waters each made their ASU debuts in relief of Hatthorn, each throwing a shutout inning in relief where they each struck out a Gorilla.

The Rambelles are 2-0 on the season and continue their time at the DII First Pitch Invitational tomorrow, where they will face Colorado Mesa and Colorado School of Mines.
