Rams Open Home Schedule with Decisive Win over Western Colorado

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team emphatically opened its home schedule with a 91-72 victory over Western Colorado on Friday afternoon inside the Junell Center/Stephens Arena.

The Rams shot 50 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point range as they led for the entire game. The Rams' defense also forced the Mountaineers into 21 turnovers, which the Rams converted into 31 points.

Four Rams scored in double figures, led by Jaqai Murray's 16 points. The senior shot 6-for-10 from the field while grabbing five rebounds and four steals.

Jesaiah McWright and Quadir Pettaway scored 15 points apiece. McWright shot 5-for-8 from the field and made five of his six free-throw attempts, while Pettaway made three three-pointers and had a pair of assists.

Kailon Nicholls scored 12 points in 18 minutes, not missing a shot on four attempts. He made a pair of shots each from two-point and three-point range, as well as at the free throw line. Nicholls also recorded a pair of steals.

Ja'Queze Kirby had an all-around game, scoring eight points while leading the Rams with seven rebounds. The senior forward recorded three steals and blocked a pair of shots.

Zyon Little had seven points, and Jordan Crawford scored six points and assisted a team-high five times.

The Rams are 4-0 and close out their weekend against Adams State tomorrow.
