GAME ONE - ASU 18, UTPB 3:
Game one proved that early mistakes can became costly as three errors from the Falcons' defense put runners aboard for back-to-back doubles from
Ethan Flodstrom and
Christian Garnette to give the Rams an early 3-0 lead.
After UTPB responded with two runs in the top of the second, ASU utilized three singles from
Jacob Guerrero,
Tayten Tredaway and Flodstrom in the bottom of the second followed by two doubles by Guerrero and Tredaway in the bottom of the third to add seven total runs in the Rams' favor to make it a 10-2 lead.
Dax Dathe came on in relief of
Alizaeh Gutierrez in the top of the third inning and after he allowed a run in the top of the third, he went on and retired the last 12 batters he faced in order to collect his first pitching win of the 2025 season. The book closed on Preseason All-American allowing one unearned run off two hits while striking out five in five total innings of work.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Rams proceeded to score eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings highlighted by the fifteen runners who reached base and the six base hits that generated RBIs to bring the game to its final score.
GAME TWO - ASU 11, UTPB 3:
For the first time in the series, UTPB struck first with a two-run home run off Rams starter
Luke Olson which led to his early exit from the game, in favor of
Keene Kreusler, in the second inning.
Kreusler went on and collected his first victory in a Rams uniform after giving 3.1 innings of work where he did not allow a run but rather one hit and four walks while striking out five of the 15 batters he faced in his relief appearance.
In the bottom of the second, the Rams responded with six runs off just one hit, four walks, a hit by pitch and an error to jump ahead.
ASU never looked back as the team added a couple more runs in the ensuing inning thanks to a
Blake Wilhoite home run and a RBI groundout off the bat of
Austin Beck.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, three walks loaded the bases for a fielder's choice ground out from
Ethan Flodstrom and a ground-rule double from
Chase Pendley scored the team's final two runs of the day.
