No. 7 Rambelles Sweep No. 20 Oklahoma Christian to Open LSC Play

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team kicked off Lone Star Conference play on the right foot, sweeping 20th-ranked Oklahoma Christian on Friday afternoon at Mayer Field. The Rambelles shut down the Eagles 4-0 in game one before claiming a 3-2 victory in game two.

A bunt single, an error, and a walk loaded the bases for Averie Gunther, whose sacrifice fly to right field scored the first run of the ballgame.

A double steal of Ashton McMillan to second and Tatiana Trotter to home scored the second run of the opening frame.

The Rambelles would conjure up a two-out rally in the third inning, starting with a Trotter walk. Gunther would single to put runners on the corners for McMillan, whose line drive skirted over the top of the shortstop's glove and rolled to the fence to plate both runners and make it 4-0, the game's final scoreline.

Cheyenne Floyd picked up the win after her second complete-game shutout of the season, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out four Eagles.

Game two remained scoreless until the third inning when the Rambelles would strike first. Abby Brand would get plunked, and Erin Plunkett would draw a walk to put runners on for Laylonna Applin, who would go to the opposite field for her fourth home run of the season, giving the Rambelles a three-run lead.

The Eagles would pull back runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make it 3-2, where the score would stay.

Amelia Hatthorn improves to 5-0 on the season, allowing four hits, two runs, and a walk in five innings while recording a pair of strikeouts. Floyd pitched the final two innings in relief, allowing one hit and recording a strikeout to pick up her first save of the season.

The Rambelles improve to 11-1 on the season and 2-0 in LSC play; they are back in action against Cameron on Sunday at 1 p.m.
