SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team picked up a pair of wins on day one of the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge Presented by West Texas Steel, coming from behind to defeat Missouri Western 3-2 before a six-run third inning saw the Rambelles claim a 6-2 win over Ouachita Baptist.
The Griffons led off game one with an RBI double in the first inning. The Rambelles would respond with
Zoey De Baca drawing a bases-loaded walk to tie the game.
The Griffons stringed together a couple of hits in the third inning to score a run, taking a 2-1 lead until the final frame.
Paris Brienesse led off the seventh inning by drawing a walk before stealing second base.
Tatiana Trotter would single in Brienesse to tie the game while advancing to second on the throw.
The next batter,
Laylonna Applin, would single to put Rambelles at the corners before stealing second during the next at-bat.
Erin Plunkett would draw a walk, and with the fourth ball being a wild pitch, scored Trotter for the Rambelles walk-off on a wild pitch.
Amelia Hatthorn improved to 3-0 on the season, allowing seven hits, two runs, and one walk while striking out six Griffons.
Ouachita Baptist jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning of game two courtesy of a two-out double.
The Rambelles would respond with a six spot in the bottom of the inning.

Averie Gunther set up Trotter, who doubled in the pair to tie the game.
A pair of bases-loaded walks, a fielder's choice, and a double steal would score the subsequent four runs to make it 6-2, where the game's scoreline stayed.
Cheyenne Floyd improves to 4-0 on the season, allowing five hits and two runs in four innings of work while striking out five.
Matie Wolkow threw the final three innings, picking up her first save of the season. Wolkow only allowed two hits and recorded a strikeout.
The Rambelles are 7-0 on the season; they face Missouri Western and Ouachita Baptist tomorrow at day two of the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge, presented by West Texas Steel.
