SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 2 Angelo State baseball team dropped the series finale to St. Mary's by a final score of 13-7 on a windy Sunday afternoon at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
With the loss, the Rams' winning streak ends at 13 games as the team's record drops to 17-3 while the Rattlers go to 11-7 (9-7, LSC).
StMU came out the games hot as a lead off walk given up by Rams starter
Ryan Free led to a two-run home run over the center field wall. After a couple of strikeouts, a second home run was hit in the inning to make the score 3-0 after the game's opening frame.
The Rams quickly tied the game in the ensuing half inning as a couple hit-by-pitches led to a RBI single up the middle from
Lane Hutchinson. After a strikeout,
Austin Beck singled though the left side to score the last two runs of the inning.
Free's day did not last much longer as he secured the first out in the second inning before a couple walks and an RBI single gave the Rattlers the lead back and forced out the lefty.
Seth Foster came in relief and gave up two more runs which made it a 7-3 game.
Action picked back up in the top of the fourth inning as the Rattlers pieced together a couple one out hits which led to the team's third home run of the afternoon to extend the Rams' deficit to seven runs.
After St. Mary's tacked on three more runs, the Rams pieced together a comeback in the bottom of the ninth starting with a
Chase Pendley RBI double.
Lane Hutchinson followed a strikeout with a double down the left field line to score two more which forced a pitching change.
Austin Beck greeted the new pitcher with an RBI infield single which scored the final run for the Rams as a strikeout cut the comeback short.
The Rams will be back in action with a non-conference doubleheader against Wayland Baptist on Tuesday, Mar. 4 with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
