No. 4 Rambelles Fall in Doubleheader to No. 3 West Texas A&M

Canyon, Texas – The Angelo State softball team suffered their first sweep of the season this evening at the hands of No. 3 West Texas A&M at Schaeffer Park, dropping game one 10-6 to the Lady Buffs before the hosts walked off the Rambelles 8-7 in game two.

Laylonna Applin opened the scoring in game one with a home run to left center field. Tatiana Trotter and Ashton McMillan reached base, with Trotter scoring later in the inning on a squeeze bunt. McMillan would score on a double steal to make it three runs scored in the first inning.

The Rambelles held the lead until the third inning when the Lady Buffs struck for four runs. The hosts added three runs in the following inning to take a 7-3 lead.

Lauren De La Cruz led off the fifth inning with a solo home run; WT would put on three more runs in the bottom of the inning, making the score 10-4.

Tatiana Trotter would hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning to bring the game to the final score line of 10-6.

Cheyenne Floyd started the game, throwing the first 2.2 innings. Matie Wolkow and Raegan Sucher each pitched 1.2 innings in relief.

The Lady Buffs pushed across six runs in the first two innings in game two.

Abby Brand's bunt single and Erin Plunkett's double put two runners in scoring position for Applin, who singled up the middle to score both runners.

McMillan would leave the yard for a two-run home run later in the inning, making it 6-4.

WT scored a run in the bottom of the fourth before the Rambelles would respond with an Applin leadoff triple and a Trotter single the following inning.

The Rambelles would score twice in the sixth inning, doing so courtesy of an error and a wild pitch.

The Lady Buffs would load the bases in the seventh, scoring the game-winning run on a bases-loaded single with two outs in the frame to walk off the Rambelles.

Amelia Hatthorn started the game in the circle, throwing the first two innings before making way for Sucher in relief, who threw three innings in relief. Floyd relieved Sucher, pitching the final 1.2 innings.

The Rambelles are 26-6 on the season and 17-5 in LSC play. They are back in action on Sunday against Midwestern State, who are coming off a sweep of Lubbock Christian this afternoon.
