Rambelles Advance to the Semifinals of the LSC Championship

Frisco, Texas - The Angelo State women's basketball team defeated the fourth-seeded Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds, 71-61, in a tightly contested ball game inside the Comerica Center Thursday evening. 
 
The Belles improve to 18-11 overall and advance to the semifinals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament as they will take on the No.1 seed Texas Woman's with tip-off scheduled for 12 p.m. on Saturday.
 

ASU is seeking its second tournament title in three years and 11th overall in the LSC Tournament.


 
40 Minute Rundown

  • Keniah Williams scored the first points of the LSC tournament for the Rambelles.
  • Majik Esquivel and Madi Lumsden would hit back-to-back threes to give the Rambelles a 9-6 lead with 5:33 remaining in the quarter.
  • The Greyhounds regained the lead, 15-14, with 55 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
  • Taylor Grona would knock down three free throws at the end of the first quarter to give the Rambelles a 17-15 lead going into the second quarter of action.
  • Martrice Brooks gave the Greyhounds a 20-19 lead with 6:08 remaining.
  • Esquivel would answer with her own three eight seconds later to give the Rambelles the 22-20 advantage with six minutes remaining.
  • Williams would score the final points of the half as she would give the Rambelles a 28-24 lead heading into halftime. 
  • Just like in the first-half Williams would score the first points for the Blue and Gold.
  • Jayla Smith would knock down two free throws to tie the contest 30-30 with 8:27 remaining.
  • Esquivel would once again show up for the Belles as she would drain a three from the corner to give the Rambelles a 33-30 lead 13 seconds later.
  • With the remaining action in the third quarter, it was basket for basket with the Greyhounds up 50-46 heading into the final quarter of action.
  • The Rambelles would regain the lead once again at the 7:27 marker of the fourth quarter as Williams gave the Belles a 52-50 advantage.
  • Esquivel knocked down clutch free throws with 45 seconds remaining in the contest to give the Belles their first double-digit lead of the game, 69-69.
  • The Belles would go on to win the game 71-61 and advance to the semifinals of the LSC tournament.

  • Williams led all scorers recording 22 points on 10-15 shooting, six rebounds, three steals, and one block.
  • Esquivel and Madeline Stephens would score 16 points, and 12 points as the other double-digit scorers on the team. 
  • The Belles shot 45 percent (22-48) from the field, 33 percent (5-15) from beyond the arc, and 81 percent (22-27) from the charity stripe. 
  • The Rambelles won the turnover battle 16-17
  • The Belles got outrebounded by the Greyhounds 37-29
  • There would be 11 different lead changes in the contest. 
  • 30 of the Belles 71 points came from inside the paint.
