Rambelles Draw With Roadrunners

DENVER, Colo - In an exciting back-and-forth contest, the Angelo State women's soccer team drew 0-0 with MSU Denver at the Assembly Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon.

The Rambelles move to 1-1-2 with the draw after today's contest.

The Rambelles would have two good chances; the first one would be from Carley Martinez, who would be open in the middle after receiving a cross from Sanai Stewart, but would miss it just right in the Belles first real chance of the contest.

The second best chance for the Rambelles happened when Jillian Greaves would get free in the middle of the field, where she would send a shot from outside the box just over the goal.

The Belles would outshoot the roadrunners 9-6, with none of the shots for either team being on goal.

Sanai Stewart, Abby James, Tina Clark, Emilee Jones, and Carley Martinez would each record a shot for the Rambelles.

With the draw, Melyna Martinez would record her second shutout in her first four career starts.

ASU returns to action on Wednesday as they open Lone Star Conference play, as they take on No. 7 Dallas Baptist with kick-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

From Travis McCorkle: Q: It's not the way you wanted it to end. After scoring four goals earlier this week and ending this game with a draw after having multiple chances how do you feel about this game compared to the game on Thursday? A: Metro was better at defending our girls. We tried offensively; it was a second game on turf and elevation, but it was disappointing that we didn't get a win. We had really good chances that we didn't convert. We need to score those chances. Still pleased with our performance, being on a bus all the way from Texas to Denver and getting a win and a draw this weekend is very good in my eyes.

Q: After playing four contests so far this year, what positives can you take out of those contests heading into LSC play?  A: Defending is improving in every aspect. The communication within the players on the field is improving from our backline to the midfield to the attack is all improving and getting better. We need to execute the chances that we have created so far this year. We know what to expect going into DBU, and I feel like we are ready for it.
