Kingsville, Texas – The Angelo State men's basketball team fought tooth and nail with Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday afternoon inside the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center, but for the second time in three days, the Javelinas claimed a one-possession win, ending the weekend with a 58-56 win over the Rams.
Quadir Pettaway, making his first appearance for the Rams since December 5
th, drew a foul with 9.1 seconds left and made the two ensuing free throws to tie the game at 56-all.
TAMUK's Bryce Smith made a no-look layup with 0.9 seconds left to seal the game for the Hogs.
The Rams shot 38.5 percent from the field and made seven of their 21 three-point attempts.
Pettaway and
Ashraf Barsham spearheaded the Rams' offense, scoring 19 points apiece off the bench.
Barsham shot 7-for-11 from the field and tallied seven steals as the Rams forced the Javelinas into 20 turnovers.
Pettaway made half of his 12 shots and was 5-for-9 from deep in 24 minutes.
Jhordan Ryan's streak of double-doubles ended this afternoon, scoring six points and grabbing nine rebounds. In the paint, he blocked three shots.
The Rams are 12-10 on the season and 3-8 in conference play. They are back in action next Thursday in Odessa to face UT Permian Basin.
