LAWTON, Okla. – The Angelo State women's basketball team returned to the win column Thursday night, pulling away in the second half for a 78-57 victory over Cameron at Aggie Gym.
With the win, the Rambelles improved to 4-8 overall and 2-4 in Lone Star Conference play.
The teams traded baskets early, with each side scoring 22 points in the opening quarter before Cameron carried a one-point lead into the break. Angelo State took control after halftime, outscoring the Aggies 45-23 in the second half to secure the road win.
Angelo State shot 42.9 percent from the field, 28.1 percent from 3-point range and 90 percent from the free-throw line. The Rambelles forced 21 turnovers while committing 11 and held a 33-31 rebounding advantage.
Majik Esquivel led all scorers with 27 points, adding four rebounds and two steals.
Taylor Grona followed with 24 points on 50 percent shooting from beyond the arc while contributing five steals, five rebounds and two assists.
Landry Morrow added 11 points to round out the Rambelles' double-figure scorers.
Halle Hughes scored her first collegiate points, while
Kenna Wood,
Tristin Keller and
Chidera Ezeilo also chipped in towards the victory.
Angelo State returns to action Saturday, Jan. 10, when it travels to Edmond, Okla. To visit Oklahoma Christian. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
