ODESSA, Texas – The No. 9 Angelo State baseball team drew eight walks but managed just four hits and stranded 11 runners on base in a 2-0 loss to UT Permian Basin in Sunday's series finale at Roden Field.
The shutout marked the Rams' first since May 10, 2024, when ASU was eliminated from the Lone Star Conference Baseball Tournament.
UT Permian Basin scored the game's only runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, stringing together a one-out single and a walk before a two-run RBI single plated both runners against starter
Chance Douglas.
Despite taking the loss, Douglas delivered a solid outing, working 4.1 innings while allowing seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
Jude Stephens followed in relief and turned in the strongest appearance of his collegiate career. The redshirt junior from Cedar Park allowed just one hit over 3.2 innings and recorded a career-high five strikeouts to keep the Falcons off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Angelo State put runners in scoring position in five different innings, including its best opportunity in the fifth when the Rams loaded the bases but were unable to push a run across.
The Rams return home next weekend to open their home schedule against UT Tyler on Friday, Feb. 6. First pitch from Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium is set for 3 p.m.
