Melbourne, Fla. – The Angelo State softball team opened its time in Florida with a 5-1 win over Embry-Riddle on Friday evening at Nancy Bottge Field on the campus of Florida Tech.
Six of the Rambelles' ten hits went for extra bases.
The Eagles struck first as the leadoff hitter in the third inning reached on a single before scoring with two outs.
Kylie Forney led off the bottom of the frame with an immediate response, homering for the first time at ASU to tie the game.
Taylor Haywood gave the Rambelles the lead an inning later, powering a two-out home run over the fence, her first for the Blue and Gold.
The Rambelles struck for three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, led off by
Larryn Feuge's RBI double.
Feuge and Haywood, who reached on a walk, would both score on
Bri Waters' pinch-hit double to right field, putting the game at its final 5-1 scoreline.
Ashleigh Dendas earned her fourth win of the season, throwing six innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out six Eagles.
Addy Ewing threw the final inning in relief, striking out one batter.
The Rambelles are 10-1 on the season; they play Florida Tech in a doubleheader tomorrow.
