No. 11 Rams Open Series With Run-Rule Victory Over Oklahoma Christian

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 11 Angelo State baseball team returned home Friday night and earned a 12-1 run-rule victory over Oklahoma Christian to open a four-game series at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.

With the win, the Rams improve to a 8-3 record overall and Lone Star Conference play.

After a scoreless first inning, Angelo State broke through in the second. Chase Pendley scored on a wild pitch before Blake Wilhoite delivered a two-run double to right-center field. Austin Beck followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0.

The Rams added three runs in the fourth. Cooper Knight drove in a run on a groundout, while Beck and Brett Smajstrla each contributed RBI singles.

Oklahoma Christian scored its lone run in the fifth, but ASU responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Beck highlighted the frame with a two-run double to left field, giving him four RBIs in the game.

Josh Reed made his fourth consecutive Friday start and earned the win, improving to 4-0. He pitched five innings, allowing one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out six, including three straight to end the second inning.

The Rams added an insurance run in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Chris Bernal. David Dressendorfer closed out the game with two innings of relief.

The Rams and Eagles will continue the series with a doubleheader tomorrow, Feb. 21. Angelo State will also celebrate Military Appreciation Day with the Frog-X Parachute Team landing on Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium between the games. All active-duty military personnel and their dependents, veterans and military retirees get free admission with valid military ID.
