Wichita Falls, Texas – The Angelo State softball team opened its Lone Star Conference schedule emphatically on Friday afternoon at Stang Park, defeating Midwestern State 18-0 in a five-inning run-rule before closing the day with a 7-2 win in game two.
The game one win is the 1,000
th for the Angelo State softball program all-time.
The Rambelles opened the scoring with two outs in the first inning of game one, using two Mustang errors and four hits to push nine runs across.
The ball only left the infield twice in the opening frame, courtesy of an RBI single by
Karli Manney and a bases-clearing triple by
Tatiana Trotter on their second trip to the plate in the opening frame.
The Rambelles struck for five runs in the third inning, all scoring with two outs.
Trotter doubled to score a pair of runs before
Zoey Sifuentes struck with an RBI single of her own.
Bri Waters drove in a pair of runs with a single to left field to push the lead to 14-0.
Freshman
Sara Paniagua and
Greysen Collins tacked onto the lead the following inning, with Paniagua delivering an RBI double and Collins launching a two-run home run, the first of her collegiate career.
The Rambelles tacked on one more run in the fifth inning off a fielder's choice.
Ashleigh Dendas picked up her sixth win of the season, throwing three shutout innings, allowing four hits, and striking out six.
Taylor Haywood threw the final two innings in relief, striking out three.
The Rambelles kicked off the scoring in game two with a two-out, two-run single off the bat of
Abby Brand.
The Mustangs tied the game back up with a two-run home run in the bottom half of the inning.
A Sifuentes double in the third put the Rambelles back ahead, and the Rambelles held a 3-2 lead until the seventh, when they would strike for four more runs with a double by
Larryn Feuge, a triple by
Kamryn Loeffler, and a single by Haywood.
Addy Ewing earned the win, allowing four hits, two runs, and one walk while striking out four.
Maddison Ruiz earned the save, throwing two shutout innings with three strikeouts, only allowing one hit.
The Rambelles are 13-4 on the season and 2-0 in LSC play. They are back in action on Sunday against Lubbock Christian.
