SAN ANGELO – The eighth-ranked Angelo State softball team continued its undefeated streak in conference play, sweeping Texas A&M International in a pair of run-rule victories, taking game one 9-1 in five innings before claiming game two with an 8-0 win, also in five innings.
The Rambelles opened scoring in game one, with
Ashleigh Dendas driving in a pair of runners in scoring position.
Taylor Haywood would single to score Dendas, increasing the advantage to 3-0 after one inning.
Zoey Sifuentes' two-out opposite field double in the following inning plated two runs, making it 5-0.
The trio of Sifuentes, Dendas, and Haywood would strike again in the fourth, with a Sifuentes single scoring a run before Dendas' double drove in two more runs. Haywood would replicate her previous at-bat, singling to center field and driving in a run to make it 9-0.
The Dustdevils pushed a run across in the top of the fifth, but left a runner on third base, and were unable to keep the game alive.
Maddison Ruiz collected the win, allowing three hits, three walks, and a run while striking out six Dustdevils.
Sifuentes kicked off the scoring in game two with a leadoff home run in the second inning, a moonshot down the left field line.
A
Kylie Forney sacrifice fly and a
Tatiana Trotter solo home run made it 3-0 after three innings.
Penelope Hurtado, making her first start of the season at first base, singled in a run the following inning to push the advantage to four runs.
An
Abby Brand sacrifice fly scored a run, and an errant throw from the Dustdevils' second baseman scored another run to put the score at 6-0. Hurtado delivered another RBI single, and
Sara Paniagua drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the inning to give the Rambelles the run-rule.
Dendas picked up her eighth win of the season, allowing only one hit and one walk while striking out two.
