Timely Hitting Propels No. 8 Rambelles to Sweep of Javelinas

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team stayed undefeated in conference play with a pair of wins over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Sunday afternoon at Mayer Softball Field, winning game one 6-2 before ending the day with a 6-5 win in game two.

Game one remained scoreless through five innings, and the Javelinas struck first, scoring in the sixth inning on an RBI single.

The Rambelles responded with a six-run sixth inning, kicked off by Zoey Sifuentes' RBI double.

Ashleigh Dendas followed with a two-RBI double to give the Rambelles a 3-1 lead.

Abby Brand delivered a two-run triple later in the inning to make it 5-1, and Brand would score on a double steal to put the scoreline at 6-1.

The Javelinas struck for another run for the game's final score of 6-2.

Dendas started in the circle, lasting 5.1 innings, allowing five hits, one walk, and one run while striking out three. Addy Ewing recorded the final five outs in relief, picking up her fourth win of the season.

The Javelinas kicked off the scoring in game two, working a couple of walks and a single to score the game's first run.

Sifuentes would hit a two-RBI double in the bottom of the first to give the Rambelles a 2-1 lead.

The Rambelles loaded the bases to lead off the second inning, and Karli Manney's walk would drive in a run. The Rambelles extended the lead to 4-1 by scoring on a wild pitch.

The Javelinas pushed a run across the following inning before Kylie Forney and Manney produced back-to-back RBI singles in the bottom of the third to push the lead to 6-2.

The Hogs would score once in the fifth and twice in the sixth to make it 6-5, but couldn't push across the tying run.

Maddison Ruiz started game two in the circle, throwing 2.1 innings before making way to Ewing, who collected the win as she threw three innings in relief.

Taylor Haywood recorded the final five outs to record her first save of the season.

The Rambelles are 19-4 on the season and 8-0 in conference play. They are back home next weekend to host UT Tyler and Texas Woman's.
