Portales, N.M. – The Angelo State men's basketball team pushed the nation's 12
th-ranked team, Eastern New Mexico, to the brink of an upset on Saturday afternoon inside the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena, but the Greyhounds evaded the Rams' upset bid with a 77-75 win.
Zyon Little's jumper with 43 seconds left put the Rams ahead, and a subsequent ENMU turnover put the Rams at the free-throw line up a point. Little would split his two free throws to make it a two-point lead.
A pair of layups made by the Greyhounds' Cooper Jackson put the hosts back into the ascendancy with three seconds left.
The Rams shot 58.8 percent from the field, 46.2 percent from three, and 84.6 percent from the free throw line.
Little led the Rams with 18 points and seven rebounds in 34 minutes off the bench, making eight of his nine shots.
In their final collegiate games,
Jesaiah McWright and
Jordan Crawford scored 13 and ten points, respectively. McWright made all five of his free-throw attempts and recorded a pair of steals, while Crawford led the Rams with six assists.
Ashraf Barsham joined Crawford with ten points, shooting 5-for-8 from the field.
Jabbari Barry and
Davon Scott scored nine points each, with Barry's coming on a trio of made three-pointers. Barry was responsible for half of the Rams' makes from deep.
The Rams finish the season with a 17-14 overall record and an 8-12 record in conference play.
