No. 13 Rambelles Split Day One of George and Ola McCorkle Challenge

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team split its opening day of action at the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge presented by West Texas Steel, dropping its first game to Missouri Western 2-0 before closing the day with a 9-1 run-rule win over Ouachita Baptist.

Despite the Rambelles out-hitting Missouri Western 5-3, Griffons' pitcher Ashlyn Finarty provided her own support with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning. The Rambelles had the bases loaded in the sixth and seventh innings, but couldn't convert any runs out of it.

Maddison Ruiz went the distance, allowing three hits and two runs while recording six strikeouts.

The Rambelles' game against Ouachita Baptist saw their lineup come to life, scoring once in the first and third innings before busting the game open with six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Taylor Haywood doubled to lead off the inning before scoring on a wild pitch. Karli Manney's single with two runners in scoring position would plate a pair of runs.

A Tatiana Trotter sacrifice fly preceded RBI extra-base hits by Abby Brand and Zoey Sifuentes, which capped the scoring off and pushed ASU's lead to 8-1.

Greysen Collins' RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Rambelles the eight-run cushion needed for the run-rule win.

Ashleigh Dendas picked up her second win of the season, allowing two hits and one run while striking out three Tigers in four innings. Addy Ewing threw the final two innings in relief, not allowing a hit.

The Rambelles are 6-1 on the season and are back in action tomorrow to face the Griffons and the Tigers.
