FRISCO, Texas – The comeback bid by the sixth-seeded Angelo State University women's basketball team fell short Friday with a 64-57 loss to third-seeded UT Tyler in the quarterfinal round of the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament at the Comerica Center.
A five-point second quarter left the Rambelles facing a 17-point halftime deficit. Angelo State responded by outscoring the Patriots 38-28 in the second half but could not complete the comeback.
The Rambelles shot 29.5 percent from the field and 25.8 percent from 3-point range while converting 13 of 16 free throws. ASU was outrebounded 36-27 but forced 28 turnovers and turned them into 24 points.
In her final game as a Rambelle,
Landry Morrow led all scorers with 23 points, shooting 63.6 percent from the field. She also recorded a team-high eight rebounds and four steals.
Majik Esquivel added 15 points, making three of six attempts from beyond the arc.
Taylor Grona finished with seven points.
Stevi Lockhart scored five points, while
Tristin Keller added three.
Kenna Wood and
Briley Merket each contributed two points to round out the scoring.
Angelo State concludes the season with a 15-12 overall record, including a 13-7 mark in Lone Star Conference play.
