SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team split its doubleheader this afternoon at Mayer Softball Field against Texas Woman's as the Pioneers claimed a 1-0 win in game one before the Rambelles bounced back with an 8-3 win in game two.
The only run in the game came in the seventh inning on a solo home run by the Pioneers' Hawwa Townsend. The Rambelles offense struggled as their lone hit was a
Karli Manney double with two outs in the fifth inning.
Ashleigh Dendas went the distance in the circle, only allowing three hits, a walk, and a run while recording three strikeouts.
The Pioneers struck first in game two with two runs in the opening frame.
The Rambelles' first run of the game came on an
Abby Brand single in the bottom of the second inning.
A
Taylor Haywood squeeze bunt, and a double steal saw the Rambelles score two more runs to take their first lead of the day, 3-2, in the third inning.
The Pioneers evened it up with an RBI double the following inning.
The fifth inning saw the nation's seventh-ranked team record six consecutive hits, which allowed the Rambelles to plate five runs.
Back-to-back doubles by
Tatiana Trotter and
Zoey Sifuentes scored Trotter for the first run of the inning, and Dendas singled to score Sifuentes.
Bri Waters and
Kamryn Loeffler delivered RBI singles, and the scoring was capped when Manney drew a bases-loaded walk.
Addy Ewing collected her third win of the weekend, throwing five innings while allowing eight hits and three runs.
Maddison Ruiz threw the final two innings, allowing one hit and recording two strikeouts.
The Rambelles are 22-5 on the season and 11-1 in LSC play. They travel to Oklahoma next weekend to face Oklahoma Christian and Cameron.
