Lawton, Okla. – The Angelo State softball team began its weekend in Oklahoma with a pair of positive results, clinching the sweep over Cameron on Friday afternoon by winning game one 6-4 in nine innings before clinching the doubleheader with a 3-1 win in game two.
The Rambelles held Cameron to five runs across two games after the Aggies scored 29 runs in a non-conference doubleheader against No. 14 Oklahoma Baptist earlier this week.
Game one saw the Rambelles strike first with an
Abby Brand solo home run to left field in the third inning.
The Aggies scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take the lead.
The fifth inning saw singles by Brand and
Kylie Forney put two runners in scoring position for
Karli Manney, who singled in a run.
Zoey Sifuentes drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game, and
Ashleigh Dendas followed with an RBI single to give the Rambelles the lead.
The Aggies scored a run to tie the game in the sixth inning, which forced extra innings.
Both teams had runners in scoring position in the seventh and eighth innings, but the breakthrough came in the ninth inning for the Rambelles, who scored through a Sifuentes RBI single and an Aggie error.
Dendas started the game in the circle, throwing 6.1 innings, allowing seven hits and four runs (three earned) while striking out six.
Addy Ewing threw the final 2.2 shutout innings in relief, allowing three hits and striking out one as she improved to 9-0 on the season.
A two-out rally in the first inning saw the Rambelles score first in game two as
Tatiana Trotter worked a full-count walk to set up Sifuentes, who launched a two-run home run over the left field fence.
The Aggies halved the lead with a leadoff home run in the second inning, but the Rambelles' two-run cushion was restored by Manney, who singled in a run after
Kamryn Loeffler's triple earlier in the inning.
Maddison Ruiz picked up the win, going the distance as she allowed five hits, one run, and two walks while striking out five Aggies.
The Rambelles improve to 24-5 overall and 13-1 in conference play. They are in action tomorrow against No. 12 Oklahoma Christian, who are coming off a pair of shutouts against UT Permian Basin.
