SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State softball team capped an undefeated weekend by claiming a pair of wins on Sunday afternoon at Mayer Softball Field as the Rambelles won game one 4-0 before finishing the day with a 9-3 win in game two.
The Rambelles opened the scoring in the third inning of game one, with a
Kamryn Loeffler walk and a
Karli Manney single putting two runners on base.
Loeffler scored the first run on a wild pitch before Manney was plated on an RBI groundout.
Taylor Haywood would deliver a two-RBI single the following inning to wrap up the scoring.
Maddison Ruiz picked up her ninth win of the season, throwing her second-career complete game shutout. Going the distance, the freshman only allowed three hits and a walk while striking out six Lobos.
Ruiz retired 15 of the last 16 batters she faced.
The Lobos struck first in game two, using a walk, an ASU error, and an inside-the-park home run to jump out to a three-run advantage.
The Rambelles were held scoreless until the fourth inning, with a Manney sacrifice fly scoring ASU's first run.
Kylie Forney followed with a two-run triple to tie the ballgame before she scored the go-ahead run on
Zoey Sifuentes' double down the left field line.
The Rambelles loaded the bases to lead off the sixth inning before Forney drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 5-3.
Sifuentes' single to center would score two more runs, and
Tatiana Trotter would follow that up with an RBI double.
Pinch hitter
Greysen Collins singled in the final run of the game.
Bri Waters started the game before making way for
Addy Ewing, who improved to 13-0 after throwing five shutout innings in relief, allowing three hits.
The Rambelles are 34-9 on the season and 23-5 in LSC play. They are on the road next weekend to face St. Edward's and St. Mary's.
