AUSTIN – The Angelo State softball team extended its winning streak to six games this afternoon after collecting two wins over St. Edward's at Diane Daniels Field, winning game one 5-4 in eight innings before ending the day with a 9-3 win in game two.
The Rambelles opened scoring in game one, with
Karli Manney reaching on an error before scoring on a
Zoey Sifuentes double.
The hosts tied it in the second inning, and the score stayed tied until the fourth.
Abby Brand would plate a pair of runs with a double before scoring on a
Taylor Haywood single up the middle to make it 4-1.
The Hilltoppers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game, sending the teams into extra innings.
Brand kicked off the top of the eighth inning with a double before pinch runner
Alexa Couto scored the go-ahead run on a squeeze bunt by Haywood.
Addy Ewing is now 14-0 on the season, throwing the final 2.1 innings in relief of starter
Maddison Ruiz. Ewing allowed two hits and struck out two Hilltoppers.
The Hilltoppers scored first in game two, with a leadoff triple and a sacrifice fly producing the first run.
The Rambelles responded with a five-spot in the top of the second, which took place following a lengthy umpire delay.
Brand led the inning off with a solo home run, and later in the inning, Manney would drive in the go-ahead run on a single.
Kylie Forney followed with a two-RBI triple, and Sifuentes capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to make it 5-1.
Haywood tacked on an RBI single the following inning to extend the lead; the Hilltoppers scored their final two runs of the game in the bottom of the inning.
The Rambelles scored twice in the top of the fourth, and
Tatiana Trotter capped off the scoring with a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Ashleigh Dendas started the game in the circle before being relieved by
Bri Waters, who threw 3.2 innings in relief, not allowing a run and scattering six hits while striking out two. Ewing secured the final two outs of the game.
The Rambelles are 36-9 overall and 25-5 in LSC play. They are back in action on Sunday against St. Mary's.
