SAN ANTONIO – The Angelo State softball team sat through a nearly hour-and-a-half rain delay in game one on Sunday afternoon, but outlasted St. Mary's and Mother Nature to win game one 6-4 before ending the weekend with a 5-0 win over the Rattlers in game two at The Field at St. Mary's.
The scoring opened in the first inning of game one courtesy of a Rattlers error.
Later in the inning,
Larryn Feuge came to bat with the bases loaded and singled, scoring a run and doubling the Rambelles' lead.
A
Kylie Forney two-run home run in the following inning made it 4-0.
The Rattlers scraped a run across in the bottom of the second, and the Rambelles made it 5-1 in the fourth, scoring on another error.
Rain joined the two teams in the bottom of the fifth, which opened the door for the Rattlers to score three runs on no hits and an ASU error to cut the deficit to 5-4; the rain delay struck as
Addy Ewing faced StMU with the bases loaded.
Following the delay, Ewing escaped the jam, only needing six pitches to record two outs and leave the bases loaded.
Pinch hitter
Greysen Collins gave ASU an insurance run in the top of the seventh with an RBI single.
Maddison Ruiz picked up her tenth win of the season, throwing 4.1 innings and allowing three hits, four runs (three earned), four walks, and four strikeouts.
Ewing threw the final 2.2 innings in relief, earning her second save of the season.
The Rambelles strung together a two-out rally in the opening inning of game two, with back-to-back walks by
Zoey Sifuentes and
Tatiana Trotter setting up
Ashleigh Dendas, who doubled to right center to score the duo.
Abby Brand, the following batter, would single, driving in Dendas to give the Rambelles a three-run advantage.
Forney led the third off with a triple before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Sifuentes.
Tatiana Trotter would follow with a solo home run over the center field fence.
Dendas started game two in the circle, throwing a gem as she carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning. The junior threw 5.1 innings, allowing one hit and three walks while recording a strikeout.
Bri Waters recorded the final five outs in relief, only allowing two walks in the process.
The Rambelles are 38-9 on the season and 27-5 in LSC play. They are home this weekend to host Lubbock Christian and Midwestern State.
