No. 13 Rambelles Earn 40th Win with Senior Day Sweep of LCU

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team celebrated its two seniors – Tatiana Trotter and Karli Manney – in style on Friday evening at Mayer Softball Field, defeating rivals Lubbock Christian 9-3 and 5-4 as ASU extended its winning streak to ten games.

Manney led the game off with a single, working her way around to third base before scoring on a Zoey Sifuentes single.

Trotter, the next batter, would double, scoring Sifuentes. Ashleigh Dendas followed with an RBI single to make it 3-0.

The Rambelles would strike once again in the fourth inning as Kamryn Loeffler and Manney pulled off a double steal.

LCU would hit a two-run home run in the fifth to half the deficit, but Trotter would lead off the bottom of the frame with a solo home run.

A Larryn Feuge sacrifice fly and a Taylor Haywood/Greysen Collins double steal would give ASU a 7-2 advantage.

The Rambelles executed their third double steal in the sixth inning – this time being Kylie Forney and Trotter – and capitalized on an LCU error to stretch their lead to 9-2.

LCU would scratch a run across in the seventh to put the game at its final scoreline of 9-3.

Maddison Ruiz picked up the win, throwing 4.1 innings, allowing two hits, two runs, and one walk while recording six strikeouts. Addy Ewing collected the save, her third of the season, throwing the final 2.2 innings in relief, allowing three hits and a run.

Game two saw Sifuentes work a two-out, full-count walk to set up Trotter, who hit a two-run home run, her second of the day, to kick off the scoring in the first inning.

An LCU two-run shot of their own tied the game in the third before taking the lead on a two-out RBI double.

Haywood would tie the game in the fourth inning with a two-out RBI single.

Trotter led off the bottom of the sixth with a single before scoring on a Dendas double. Dendas would double the Rambelles' lead by scoring on an Abby Brand sacrifice fly.

LCU hit a two-out solo homer in the seventh to make it 5-4, but the Rambelles shut the door to complete the sweep.

Dendas started the game in the circle before making way for Ewing, who allowed one hit in 1.2 innings of work. Ruiz finished the day in the circle, throwing the final 2.2 innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out four Lady Chaps. Ruiz improves to 12-4 on the season.

The Rambelles are 40-9 overall and 29-5 in LSC play. They are back in action on Sunday to host Midwestern State at 1 p.m.
