SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team split its doubleheader this evening with UT Permian Basin, dominating in game one with a 17-2 result before the Falcons held on to a 3-2 win in game two at Mayer Softball Field.
The day also featured senior outfielder
Tatiana Trotter breaking the program's career triple record, doing so with a pair of triples today as she moves to 17 in her prestigious career.
Back-to-back RBI singles by Trotter and
Ashleigh Dendas in the first inning of game one put the first two runs on the board before
Taylor Haywood grounded out to drive in a third run.
The Falcons plated a pair of runs to cut the Rambelles' lead to 3-2.
The Rambelles regained those two runs the following inning, doing so on a
Zoey Sifuentes RBI single and a Falcons error.
The Rambelles then struck for ten runs the following inning, kicking off the scoring with a double steal.
An
Alexa Couto bunt single and a
Kylie Forney infield single preceded a Sifuentes two-RBI triple.
Sifuentes would score on a wild pitch, and
Larryn Feuge hit a sacrifice fly to score the sixth and seventh runs of the inning.
Greysen Collins clubbed a two-run home run;
Penelope Hurtado would go back-to-back with her freshman teammate, a solo shot to push the scoreline to 15-2.
A Sifuentes RBI double and a
Sara Paniagua RBI single in the fourth inning finished off the scoring.
Addy Ewing improves to 11-0, throwing four innings and allowing four hits, two runs, and one walk while striking out three.
Bri Waters pitched a shutout inning in relief to close out the game.
The Rambelles' offense in game two struggled against UTPB's Jessica Cantrell, who held ASU to two runs on six hits.
All three of the Falcons' runs in game two came in the third inning.
The Rambelles' breakthrough came in the fourth inning, when Trotter's record-setting triple set up Dendas, whose groundout plated the senior centerfielder.
Forney would deliver a triple in the sixth inning, which Dendas capitalized on by driving her in with a double.
Dendas started in the circle before making way for
Maddison Ruiz, who shut down the Falcons in 4.1 innings in relief. Ruiz only allowed three hits while recording six strikeouts.
The Rambelles are now 30-9 on the season and 19-5 in conference play. They are back in action next weekend, hosting Western New Mexico and Sul Ross State.
