SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 14 Angelo State baseball team completed a four-game, weekend sweep of Cameron with an 11-7 win on Sunday afternoon at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
With the victory, the Rams extend their winning streak to nine games, improving to 36-14 overall and 17-10 at home.
Prior to today's contest, the Rams honored their 14 seniors in a pregame ceremony.
Angelo State struck early and never trailed.
Chase Pendley opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly to bring home Gam Jones, and two batters later,
Austin Beck launched a home run over the left-center field wall to give the Rams a 3-0 lead.
The Rams added to their advantage in the third inning with a two-RBI double to left-center field followed by a sacrifice fly from
Jordan Kelly to double the lead.
Angelo State broke the game open in the fourth, plating four runs.
Brett Smajstrla drove in two with a single up the middle before
Tate Greene followed with a driving in two more runs to extend the lead.
Cameron mounted a late push, scoring twice in the seventh inning and continuing to chip away at the deficit, but the Rams bullpen held off the rally.
Chance Douglas recorded the final out on a fly ball to secure the win.
Eight pitchers saw action for the Blue and Gold, combining to manage the Aggies' late surge.
Johnny Stacy started and delivered three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out four.
David Dressendorfer earned the win in relief, tossing a scoreless sixth inning to improve to 2-0 on the season.
With the regular season complete, the Rams now await the Lone Star Conference's announcement of postseason seeding and first-round matchups for the best-of-three series.
