No. 16 Rambelles Split Opening Two Games at South Central Regional

Canyon, Texas – The Angelo State softball team was involved in two barnburners this afternoon at Schaeffer Park as a part of the South Central regional, walking off Texas A&M-Kingsville 6-5 before a tightly-contested winner's bracket game against West Texas A&M saw the Lady Buffs pull ahead late to claim a 9-6 win over the Rambelles.

The Javelinas started the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning; the Rambelles immediately responded with a Zoey Sifuentes single before the freshman moved to second on a stolen base and subsequently scored on an Abby Brand double to tie things up.

A Javelina leadoff homer and a two-out RBI single put TAMUK up 3-1 in the fourth inning.

Sifuentes would hit a two-run home run off the light pole in left field in the bottom of the inning to even the scoreline.

The Hogs would deliver a solo home run in the top of the fifth to retake the lead; however, Kylie Forney would hit a solo home run of her own to tie the game before an Ashleigh Dendas RBI single put ASU ahead.

TAMUK would double in the tying run in the top of the seventh.

Larryn Feuge led the bottom of the seventh off with a walk before Karli Manney reached on a bunt single and Tatiana Trotter was intentionally walked to load the bases.

Dendas would be hit by the first pitch she saw, which drove in the winning run for the Rambelles' walkoff win.

Game two saw the Rambelles jump out with a flying start, courtesy of back-to-back two-out walks by Zoey Sifuentes and Tatiana Trotter, which set up Dendas to launch a three-run home run.

WT would scratch a run across in the top of the second, but the Rambelles immediately responded with an RBI double by Feuge.

The regional hosts tied the game up in the third, pushing across three runs.

The game stayed tied until the bottom of the fourth, when Forney knocked a two-run shot over the right-field fence to make it 6-4.

ASU held the two-run lead into the seventh inning, but WT struck for five runs to capture a 9-6 lead, which is where the game's scoreline ended.

The Rambelles are 47-13 on the season and face Texas A&M-Kingsville tomorrow at noon in an elimination game. The winner must turn around and play WT at 2:30 p.m., needing to beat the Lady Buffs twice to advance to next week's Super Regionals.
