No. 13 Rams’ 2026 Season Comes to a Close in South Central Regional

TYLER, Texas – The No. 13 Angelo State baseball team saw its 2026 season come to an end Saturday at Irwin Field after dropping a pair of games to UT Tyler by a combined score of 18-3.

The Rams conclude the season with a 42-19 overall record, marking the program's seventh consecutive 40-win season. Angelo State, however, will miss the South Central Super Regional for the first time since the format's introduction in 2019.

Game 1: UT Tyler 13, Angelo State 3
UT Tyler took control early in the opener, scoring five runs in the third inning before adding four more in the fifth to build a commanding lead.

The Rams answered in the bottom of the fifth when Tate Greene singled up the middle and later scored after Austin Beck lined an RBI single into center field.

The Patriots extended their lead in the sixth with a two-RBI double before adding two insurance runs in the ninth.

Angelo State attempted a late rally in the bottom of the ninth as Greene delivered an RBI double and Hunter Holt drew a bases-loaded walk, but a groundout ended the contest.

The Rams used six pitchers in the loss. Luke Spencer made the start, pitching 2 2/3 innings while allowing five runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Jalen Rogers matched the longest outing of the game for ASU with 2 2/3 innings of relief work. Garrett Villa and Josh Reed combined for 2 1/3 scoreless innings.

Game 2: UT Tyler 5, Angelo State 0
The nightcap featured a dominant pitching performance from the Patriots, who limited the Rams offensively throughout the elimination game.

Angelo State was unable to place a leadoff runner aboard and reached scoring position only twice while striking out 10 times.

UT Tyler capitalized on free passes, nine hits and a defensive miscue to score runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings before adding two more in the eighth.

Nick Gray started the winner-take-all contest and worked through traffic in each of his four innings. The right-hander allowed one unearned run on three hits and two walks while striking out five.

Garrett Baumann followed in relief and tossed 3 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two. Jude Stephens recorded the final out before the Rams mounted one last threat in the ninth inning, placing runners on the corners before a flyout brought the season to a close.
