Mike Erwin Named New Head Women's Soccer Coach

Mike Erwin Tabbed as Women's Soccer Head Coach

SAN ANGELO, Texas
– Angelo State Athletic Director James Reid announced Monday the hiring of Mike Erwin as the fourth head coach in the history of the Angelo State women's soccer program.

"I am so excited about Mike joining the Ram Fam," said Reid. "He brings great experience to the position, and I feel he will be able to continue and grow the great tradition that Angelo State Soccer has experienced under our previous coaches.  His vision and plan for the program, along with his coaching experience in the Lone Star Conference and the South-Central Region should prove beneficial as he takes over the program.  We can't wait for him to begin his tenure here at Angelo State University."

Erwin arrives in San Angelo after spending the past six seasons as associate head coach at Lone Star Conference foe St. Mary's. During his tenure with the Rattlers, the program compiled a 55-37-17 record, qualified for the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament in each of his six seasons and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2022 and 2023.

While at St. Mary's, Erwin helped develop 12 All-Lone Star Conference selections, six All-South Central Region honorees and one All-American.

"I am incredibly honored and excited to be named the next head women's soccer coach at Angelo State University," said Erwin. "This program has a rich tradition of excellence, and the opportunity to lead such an elite group of student-athletes is a privilege. I can't wait to get to work, build on the strong foundation already in place, and compete for championships while developing these young women both on and off the field. Go Belles!"

Prior to joining the St. Mary's staff, Erwin served as the U13-14 Girls Director for Rio Rapids Soccer Club in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In that role, he oversaw the implementation of the club's curriculum and the development of players in the U13 and U14 age groups while also coaching teams at multiple levels within the organization.

"Mike has been a big piece of our program for the past 6 years and we will miss him," said Kevin Driggs, St. Mary's Head Women's Soccer Coach. "Mike is a fantastic coach and leader, and I have no doubts he will have a tremendous amount of success leading Angelo State. I am extremely happy for him and his family."

A native of New Mexico, Erwin is an enrolled member of the Muscogee Creek Nation of Oklahoma. He played club soccer in Albuquerque with Rio Vista FC, now known as Rio Rapids Soccer Club. Erwin continued his playing career at Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Arizona before competing semi-professionally for both the Albuquerque Asylum and Banat Storm.

Erwin earned a bachelor's degree in political science and philosophy from the University of New Mexico. He holds both a USSF "B" License and a USSF National Youth License. He and his wife, Liana, welcomed their son, Bodhi, in 2024.

The Rambelles will kick off the 2026 season on August 27th at 1:00 p.m. when they take on MSU Denver.
